Our Certificate III in Dental Assisting course will provide you with the skills and expertise to assist a range of dental health professionals, including; dentists, dental hygienists, dental prosthetists, dental therapists and oral health therapists.
Upon completion, you will have a detailed grasp of a wide range of oral health procedures and play a vital assisting role in their performance. In addition to practical treatment, the course also includes detailed information on maintaining high standards of infection control, as well as dental practice administration as part of a comprehensive training program.
At the completion of this course, you will be prepared to assist in all standard dental treatments, dental radiography. Most importantly, you will learn the communication skills and sensitivity to apply your knowledge to patients from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and ages.
This qualification reflects the role of workers who assist a dentist, dental hygienist, dental prosthetist, dental therapist or oral health therapist during oral health care procedures. Their role includes maintaining high standards of infection control, assisting with practice administration and supporting quality and professionalism in the dental sector.

- Learners will need to be able to read and write to approximately Year 10 level or Cert III in English
- Learners need to be reasonably physically fit as the role involves standing for long periods of time
- 11 units (9 core units + 2 elective units)
- 250 Hours Total Required
The course will be delivered over the period of 6 months. Students will receive, 13 weeks of theory and assessments submission and 250 hours of placement at a Dental Clinic where students will be learning and practicing variety of dental procedures and enjoy hands on skills and observe the duties of a dental assistant under the supervision of the dentist and/ senior dental assistant.
Students will be experiencing the importance of dentistry and oral health though assisting with general dental procedures, major dental treatments, root canal therapy, implant and bone grafting surgeries.
Cosmetic dentistry includes, teeth whitening, teeth alignments and different orthodontic treatments.

During your study, you will learn how to prepare the surgery with the correct dental equipment, dental instruments and materials for a range of general, major and specialised dental treatments alongside with great knowledge on how to promote high level of oral health care and maintenance.
During your work as a dental assistant/ dental nurse, you are required to assist with admiration duties and responsibilities to guarantee the smooth running of a professional dental practice.
Our CERT III will take you thoroughly to a range of administration duties including managing appointments, maintain patients records, receiving payments and recording payments history.
Assist with stock control, from stocktake procedures, ordering equipment and materials to dealing and communicating with dental companies and marketing representatives.
Assist with dental radiography
Dental radiography is an important step within every diagnostic dental treatments. Dental images help dentists, Oral therapists, and dental hygienists to give the correct and precise diagnoses to variety of dental problems.
Going through our dental assisting course, you will learn how to assist with dental radiographs from preparing patients for dental radiography and how to process and mount different types of dental radiographs, this will prepare you as a dental assistant to undertake the CERT IV in dental assisting- Radiography specialisation where you will be the operator of al dental radiography procedures such as intraoral and extra oral dental radiographs and enabling you to expose and produce a prescribed dental radiographic image.
Promoting good oral health and hygiene
Part of being dental assistant, you will have the knowledge to provide and promote good oral health and hygiene, after completing our CERT III in dental assisting, you will be eligible to have the chance to refine your knowledge of the correct oral health habits and provide patients with ultimate care through enrolling in CERT IV in dental assisting- Oral Health Promotion Specialisation.
Dental Laboratory and Dental Impressions Techniques
Throughout our CERT III in dental assisting, you will learn about different types of dental impressions (dental moulds).
It is essential to learn how to prepare patients for dental impressions and explain to them what to expect during the procedure, and how to prepare and mix dental impressions materials and which type of materials to choose from according to the type of procedure. Our trainer will teach you step by step on how to assist the dentist or the hygienist with dental impressions and how to initiate the preparations and choosing the correct materials, disinfection of dental impressions and preparing them to be poured with dental plaster to build diagnostic dental study models.
You will learn the correct way of mixing dental impression materials and the ideal step to step of mixing and pouring dental plaster to produce accurate diagnostic dental models.
CERT III in dental assisting will prepare you to have the skills to take diagnostic dental impressions using different impression materials throughout enrolling in our CERT IV in dental assisting -Technical Records specialisation
